EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY

Ever been inspired by cutlery? The idea for this photography/typography poster hopped into my brain one day as I was hunting around in my kitchen draws. Almost has a Christmas-festive feel yes? I was thinking maybe framing it as a Kitchen/Dining room print

SEA OF SHOES ART COMP

Jane from the infamous blog Sea of Shoes just held a fashion art comp, where she asked readers to send in their artistic interpretations of the Spring 2011 shows. I thought this was such a great idea and a good way to inspire some more 'arty-ness' in the blogosphere. Below is the sketch I sent in (pencil sketch digitally coloured), however I don't know if I made the cut off date in time! oh well, it was a good push for me to get something on paper! Take a look at the flickr gallery of entries so far, and I'll get back to you on whether my entry was seen or not :)

I HEART ART : ALBERTO SEVESO

Entitled 'Medicina Rossa' (red) and 'Sequence' (blue) these amazing shots are photographs of ink being poured into a fishbowl and capturing the reaction to water. Created by an Italian artist; Alverto Seveso, who's work has been labeled fantastic and 'mind blowing', I think they have a haunting almost ethereal feel to them don't you? very cool...seen via Trendland

I HEART ART : DANE LOVETT

I saw this painting in a post on The Design Files and immediately fell in love!!
It reminds me of staying up late on school nights to tape my favourite TV Shows (pause/record to chop the ads out)...sigh the good ol' days of VHS; Be kind and rewind.
The artist behind the piece is Brisbanite Dane Lovett, definitely one to keep an eye on!

As seen on The Design Files

HANDMADE BUY OF THE DAY : RAINY DAY MOBILE

Well once again Brisbane-nites will be shielding their GHD'd locks from the elements today and I found the perfect handmade gift for such weather! This gorgeous paper mobile is from Etsy store Gosh and Golly (a recent Etsy addition whose name I love) Forget mobiles being just for the nursery Id like to admire this in my kitchen or living room! It also comes in a wall art version and both can be custom made with colours of your choice for US$48. Very perty (also check out the hot air balloon mobile here)

EYE CANDY : WHOLE LOTA PAINT CHIPS

I've seen this idea before and love it. I always steal those paint chip cards and one day I might have enough for a wall! Originally I used them for colour-way ideas and samples on design moodboards at uni but now its just habit...one of these days I'll get black-listed from hardware stores in Brisbane. EYE CANDY : FRAME-ABLE FASHION

What a good idea, clothing as art. Now I have to find a garment worthy of framing that I don't want to wear anymore...or maybe can't fit; finally an excuse to buy size 0 couture! hah

I HEART ART : LAURA LAINE

Finnish Fashion Illustrator Laura Laine has been a regular feature on my desktop wallpapers for a couple of years now and I thought, in case you hadn't been exposed to her beautiful work yet (shock horror!), I would share some this morning! Based in Helinksi, she studied Fashion Design before concentrating solely on Illustration and setting herself up as a full-time freelance artist. She has done commissions for places like H+M, Zara, Tommy Hilfiger and Viktor&Rolf. (and I believe she also teaches at a university sometimes)
Her work is always so detailed and shaded beautifully, Id be really interested in learning more about the methods she uses and what inspires her... hope you guys enjoy her work now as much as I do! take a look -
