LUST HAVE TREND : NEONS & NEUTRALS

NEONS & NEUTRALS : SHOPPING
With all the dreary things happening in the world sometimes the best thing you can do to brighten the mood is wear some colour! As someone who's wardrobe is predominantly gray, colour seemed a scary thing. But after my first big leap (a bright pink bridesmaid dress) I haven't looked back! It seems to have immediate effects on my cheer-level and automatically propels an old outfit to modern heights. Im not suggesting you wear head-to-toe neon green (only Kermit can make that work) but just a little dash here and there can do wonders.
However if you are after something a little more subdued then the neutral trend is for you, and if done right can be worn all over; think Drew Barrymore and Anna Kendrick at the Oscars this year. When it comes to finding a good neutral colour, it seems that fair people suits shades based on pinks, tanned suit more yellows and dark skins look best in natural olive tones, but you'll never know unless you at least try.
Or even better meld the two trends. Teamed back with neutral basics, brights should be on every girl's Winter shopping list. In fact my favourite colours this season are pairings between cool Grays and citrus yellows and warm creams with reds. Go on experiment a little, you might just find a brave new hue to suit you!

SIP IT SLOWLY/YOU'LL BE BLOWN AWAY

Recently I was looking through the September 2007 issue of Harper's Bazaar Australia and came across a feature on artist Tokujin Yoshioka and his amazing window display (below top) 'remembrance' an installation for Hermés in 2004. So beautiful, it looks like the product is floating on clouds. In it's creation over 500,000 clear straws were used.

He has recently done a second installation that was on display at the Maison Hermès in Japan up until January this year. The woman (a famous Japanese actress) is captured on a large screen and the scarves are set up to softly sway in time with her movements. Very cool.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

In Paris earlier this month a lucky few were graced with a look at McQueen's final work. Inspired by the dark ages and revisiting the craftsmanship he once focussed on the results are awe inspiring. True works of art, its' sad to think this creativity is the last...

I WANT IT NOW : GREEN MARKERS

These fabulous little inventions are so cool! hatched from the minds of Japanese design duo Yuruliku, I think they would be a vast improvement on the daggy coloured tags that invade my masses of fashion mags.

You can buy them from here but it is a Japanese site, would love to know if there was anywhere else to get them from! Seen via Layers of Meaning / The Coterie Blog

ATTACK OF THE UNION JACK

Check out these Union Jack accessories. I'd love to add something flag related to my decor.. not sure I could do a whole couch, but I definitely forsee a pillow or two in my future. As I have a thing for chunky knits and quirky furnishings the first two chairs below are made in heaven. Knitwear designer Melanie Porter hand-makes knitted panels to fit over vintage chairs. Inspired. (seen via Made By Girl.)

FEELING SKETCHY

Was doing some rough sketches the other day, I always mean to draw more - must remind myself to do it! Just thought I'd share this one, sort of a comment on the focus on shoulders at the moment. I might cook up a Lust Have Trend post based on it. Have a nice arvo :)

LIVING SPACE

I saw this lounge-room via Layers of Meaning and just want to live in it right away! it looks so comfortable and homey but super stylish and modern. Through the pic I discovered the 'Live Creating Yourself' blog by Chicago native Alaina, which I will begin to explore asap. The prints (which are the reason for the photo) can be bought at the LCY Etsy store here, 3 for $40)

Made By Girl did a post on Alaina's home where I found more well designed and furnished spaces to love. Amazing windows and use of space, love it...
